Minutes before he was to die, the Czar sent a reprieve and he spent four years in Siberia instead. His prison years proved to be formative in his pathological philosophy involving suffering leading to salvation. In prison the author discovered how greatly the lower classes despised the land owners. Additionally, they associated the intelligentsia, of which Dostoevsky was a part, with the landed classes. This revelation was severely difficult for Dostoevsky because his desire had been to help these lower class peasants. After experiencing their proclamations, Dostoevsky rejected the upper class imitations of the European lifestyle and advocated a return to a uniquely Russian style of life. These essential ideas were refined after his return from Siberia and are as follows: The importance of family life. Recognize the primacy of religion; particularly Russian Orthodox Christianity. Essay on Cover LEtter Essay on Cover LEtter â€Å"Paper from Ramleh† and Cocked and Locked† â€Å"Paper from Ramleh† by Gasson Kanafani and â€Å"Cocked and Locked† by Etgar Keret are two stories that include interactions between Palestinian and Israeli people. â€Å"Paper from Ramleh† and â€Å"Cocked and Locked† both have similarities in themes such as military presence, revenge, and treatment of Israelis and Palestinians but also the basic aspects of the stories are different from one another. In each of these stories we see mistreatment coming from both the Israelis and the Palestinians. In â€Å"Cocked and Locked† we read about a Palestinian man hurling insults at an Israeli solider who is undeserving of the unfiltered content that is coming from the Palestinians mouth. There was no reason to provoke a verbal altercation. This Palestinian man also injured Meyer’s friend Abutbul, who will never regain consciousness again. â€Å"Paper from Ramleh† portrays the same mistreatment but this time coming from the Israeli soldi ers to the Palestinian civilians. The Israeli soldiers have no respect or moral conscience when it comes to their interactions with the people. Innocent Palestinian lives were taken by the Israeli soldiers, which were completely unwarranted. A similarity between these two stories is the blatant mistreatment of both groups coming from one to the other. While each story may not have involved the same actions, their motives for treating the people badly were the same: hatred between each race. The mistreatment between each people group is different in each story. In â€Å"Cocked and Locked† we see the mistreatment starting from the Palestinian man who is throwing insults at the solider on two different occasions. The first instance with the Palestinian man is in the beginning of the story. The man is trying to antagonize the Meyer by making sexual assumptions about the soldier’s relationship with his commanding general. He also goes onto say how he had sexual intercourse with the soldier’s mother, sister, and his friend Abutbul. The mistreatment coming form the Palestinian man is emotional and verbal abuse compared to the mistreatment in â€Å"Paper from Ramleh† which was physical abuse. The physical abuse that took place in â€Å"Paper from Ramleh† is coming from the Israeli soldiers towards the Palestinian people, which consisted of the shooting of Abu Uthman’s daughter and wife. Both of these deaths were unwarranted and quite frankly did not need to happen. These two instances show the mistreatment of both the Israelis and the Palestinians. In both situations the military presence played a role in the abuse towards both parties. â€Å"Cocked and Locked† and â€Å"Paper from Ramleh† have a military presence that is present and overpowering in each story. In â€Å"Cocked and Locked† we see a military authority from Meyer. After the civilian has badgered him, he aims and sets his gun directly at the m an until he interrupted and ordered to stand down by his commanding general. In this instance, the military presence is being used to defuse the situation by the commanding general. The commanding general, Eli, explains how they cannot use their military force because they would become the same as their enemy. Eli states, â€Å"But if I did that, I’d be just like them† (pg 172). This is a clear picture that these military officers are not going to use their military power for their selfish gain or to make a point against the Palestinians. Comparing this to the military presence in â€Å"Paper from Ramleh†, it is a difference that results in the loss of many lives. The military officers in â€Å"Paper from Ramleh† use their military presence to bring harm upon the Palestinian people. After the shooting of Fatima, her mother was so distraught she could not stop crying. She was ordered to stop crying and when she didn’t she was beaten and shot by one of the soldiers (pg 39). This phenomenon has introduced the rule of ‘No Arabic Speaking’ in the Saudi Arabia where students are prohibited from the use of L1 in everyday classroom activities, as the teachers and proponents of this rule believe that the active use of L1 may inhibit the proper and quick learning of L2. This leads to poor motivation in those students and difficulties in learning and acquiring the second language in its true spirit. So the question tends to be whether the restricted use of L1 assists in or inhibits the proper acquisition and learning of the second language, in short if it is an asset or a liability. This paper sheds some light on the motivation theories and their application with respect to the problem in discussion, and tries to review the monolingual practices in order to help such students in developing positive attitudes towards the target langu age, so that they can be highly motivated to acquire L2 in its true meaning thereby enabling them to lay a firm foundation for speaking and writing in L2. In order to evaluate the issue under consideration, we will first look at the recent research works and studies about L2 motivation as a second language (in a foreign environment) or foreign language (in a native English-speaking country). For the analysis of the problem I have selected a few articles, journals, and other related literary documents to accumulate knowledge and to establish well-grounded theoretical context and conceptual framework for the paper. So this paper can also serve as a comprehensive summary of the relevant studies which comprise, for example Cle ´ment & Gardner, 2001;... Hence, instead of restating what has already been very well described in the articles and journals selected for the anthology, I have tried to evaluate the answers to the question under study from various standpoints, highlighting their importance and trying to establish the connections with other approaches to the problem. In trying to understand the acquisition of L2 as a language we need to see it not just as a subject, but as a deeply social and cultural event; and that’s what makes language learning different from other academic subjects. The elements of language learning as a subject include the understanding of lexical terms, vocabulary and grammatical rules; whereas it is also socially bound requiring the language learner to integrate several elements of the culture of the second language (Gardner, 1979 and Williams, 1994). L2 motivation researchers have widely supported this approach, which has led to the inclusion of social and cultural dimension in the language lear ning and studies. This has also introduced the concepts of multiculturalism, language globalization, power relations between different cultures and social groups in the study of L2 motivation. This, in fact, also explains why it was the social psychologists who first initiated the researches into L2 motivation. Survey on Spatial Database Systems à ¯Ã‚ Ã¢â‚¬ ºÃƒ ¯Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚  Ãƒ ¯Ã‚ Ã‚  Abstract—In this survey, the term of â€Å"spatial database†, its data models, its data types with implementations, and its management techniques are described with providing at least spatial join methods. Also the storage and query processing algorithms for such databases are surveyed. (Abstract section will be updated with final report) 1.Introduction Various fields need various data types such as character, number, date, time, and image in data base management systems (DBMS). Some other fields need more specialized data types with geometric and geographical attributes. Those needs are satisfied by the spatial data. The Spatial Data is described as data related to time and space [12]. The most noticeable area for spatial data types is two dimensional abstraction of the earth surface [Figure 1]. Other examples are layouts of very large scale integration designs in electronics, 3D designs of biological issues like DNA, and the complicated models of the human brain systems. Automated Mapping/Facilities Management (AM/FM) systems which automate the management and maintenance of networks such as power grids or telephone lines. Land Information Systems (LIS) manage information such as Image Processing systems which process remote sensing images acquired by aircraft and satellites. LIS also deal with the details of land parcel ownership. Although the relational DBMS’s have been tried to manage those types of data, they did not meet the requirements properly [12]. Spatial database systems provide advantages in areas such as decision support, administration, transportation scheduling, resource management, environmental monitoring, real-time navigational systems, data quality and integrity enforcement, and impact assessment. The remaining of this draft report is organized as follows: In Section 2, Modeling Spatial Database Systems is explained in detail. In Section 2.1, the characteristics of spatial data types are represented. The relations and related explanations are provided in Section 2.2. The querying and its techniques are represented in Section 2.3. At 2.4, indexing of spatial data is shown. Visualization of spatial data is explained in Section 2.5. Finally, concluding remarks are summarized in Section 3. 2. Modeling SPATIAL DATABASE SYSTEMS Spatial database systems are either the new DBMS or additional features on Relational DBMS’s. It is a DBMS with additional capabilities for handling spatial data and Offers spatial data types in its data model and query language. For modeling such a database system, data types, relations, querying, indexing and visualization steps can be considered different parts of it. 2.1.Data TYPES There are classical data types for all DBMS such as types of chars, types of numbers, date, and time. Spatial data shows the geometric and geographical variables such as point, line, region, polyline, and polygon. The presentation of those can be divided into two main groups [1]. 2.1.1. Objects in space It is a representation of spatial data types such as polygons, lines, polylines etc. Point: As pairs of coordinates in lat/long or some other reference system A point feature is a zero-dimensional cartographic object. It specifies the geometric location and no other meaningful measurement The size of the point may vary, but the area of those symbols is meaningless Four types of points exist: entity point, label point, area point and node Line: Ordered sequence of points connected by straight lines Line features are one dimensional features, despite occupying two-dimensional space. A line segment is the direct connection between two points A line feature is typically represented as a sequence of vectors An Arc is the location of points that are defined by a mathematical function to form a curve Link or edge is the connection between two nodes Areas: As ordered rings of points connected by straight lines to form polygons Area is a two dimensional, bounded and continuous object Interior area is an area not including its boundary Simple polygon consists of an interior area and an outer ring. The boundary does not intersect itself Typically refers to vector polygons, but also relates to pixels and grid cells. 2.1.2.Space It deals with Statement about every point in space such as partitions into states, counties, municipalities etc. (This section will be detailed in final report) 2.2.REALATIONS Spatial relationships are very important in the operations offered by spatial algebras. For instance, it is possible to ask for all objects in a given relationship with a query object, e.g. all objects within an object or intersection points. There are several classes [8, 3, 4]: †¢ Topological relationships †¢ Direction relationships †¢ Metric relationships (This section will be detailed in final report) 2.3.QUERYING Spatial data requires a graphical presentation of results. In addition, SDT values used in queries or graphical input of queries need graphical representations. (This section will be detailed in final report) 2.3.1.Languages Query languages for spatial databases can be used as candidates for the creation of a spatial language. Because of the extra semantic complexity added by spatial dimensions, it is desirable to have features in a spatial query language that go beyond those provided by currently available mainstream relational languages. (This section will be detailed in final report) 2.3.2.Operators There are several types of spatial operators [4] logical relationships, arithmetic, spatial metrics, position, orientation, area, volume, shape, extent, surface, disjunction, intersection, inclusion, neighborhood, and equality. (This section will be detailed in final report) 2.4.INDEXING For all DBMS, fast access to row data depends on the quality of indexing. Complex indexing methods can be used to rapidly locate single or multiple objects in the databases. (This section will be detailed in final report) 2.4.1.Indexing Methods For spatial databases, some indexing techniques such as quadtrees [6], R-Trees [2] are mostly used ones. (This section will be detailed in final report) 2.5.vÄ ±sualÄ ±zatÄ ±on The modern database management systems provide visualization tools to represent spatial data and queries about those data. Browsers, plotters and map displays can be considered as standard tools for spatial database systems. Although some researchers classify the spatial maps as maps showing qualitative, quantitative and composite change, and space-time ratios[9], some researchers made this classification like dance maps, chess maps and change maps to visualize time series data [7]. â€Å"There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountain top of our desires†. These are the words of a man, Nelson Mandela, who fought for something that many would shy away from. He led the anti-apartheid movement, became the president of the African National Congress Youth League, and later became the president of South Africa winning the Nobel Peace Prize.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  1942 started Nelson Mandela’s participation in the racial oppression in South Africa. He joined the African National Congress (ANC), led by Anton Lembede. In 1944, Mandela joined up with Walter Sisulu, William Nkomo, Oliver R. Tambo, and Ashby P. Mda to form the African National Congress Youth League. Quickly, Mandela became the secretary of the ANCYL in 1947 because of his consistent effort and disciplined work. In 1949 the Programme of Action was accepted as authorized ANC policy. The Programme of Action supported boycott, strike, civil disobedience, and non-co-operation. Nelson Mandela became the president of the ANCYL in 1952. â€Å"Under his leadership the ANC began sponsoring nonviolent protests, strikes, boycotts, marches, and other acts of civil disobedience and in the process becoming a target to police harassment and arrest.† This came to be known as the Defiance Campaign. This marked the beginning of mass resistance to apartheid. In 1959 a small group of ANC members broke off and started their own group called the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC). And on March 21, 1960, 20,000 PAC protesters left there homes without passes and joined together in Sharpeville. The police, thinking that the group would become unfriendly, opened fire on the protesters. Sixty-Nine Blacks were killed and another 186 were wounded. After this attack, the South African Government outlawed the ANC and PAC organizations. But this would not stop Mandela and his companions from fighting the apartheid. In 1961 Mandela helped establish the ANC’s military wing, known as the Umkhonto we Sizwe -Spear of the Nation-, also known as the M-plan or MK plan named after Mandela himself. He was named its commander in chief and was sent to Algeria for military training. In that time 200 acts of sabotage took place. When he returned in 1962, he was arrested and sentenced to five years in prison for illegal ... ...ed on majority rule. Mandela would lead South Africa as its president until 1999 when he stepped down and Thabo Mbeki was selected president. Mandela worked his way up through the ranks of the ANC and ANCYL, leading the anti-apartheid movement. What he accomplished while in the ANCYL and in prison changed the way that South Africa is today. Without Mandela blacks would still only be able to use certain bathrooms and would only be able to go in certain places designated for them. This 55-year journey from the African National Congress, to prison, and finally to becoming president and winning the Nobel Peace Prize has made Nelson Mandela a living legend. But in the words of Nelson Mandela himself, I have walked that long road to freedom. I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can rest only for a moment, for with freedom comes responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not yet ended. (pg.625)

He experiences a tragedy in his life where he was trying to find his place in his own life with his sons leaving, growing old, and an escalating sense of stubbornness. Wily was Just one of many Americans that experienced a great tragedy during this time which was a reason that led up to the great depression in 1929. This makes a symbolic icon of the failing America during this time.Wily Loan had a life most people admired while his sons were still in high school. He had a Job and was very happy at that time. His son Biff was the high school quarterback and was very good at his position. This made Wily extremely proud and hoped he would see his son go off to play football at the college level. He was very content with his life at this point and this symbolizes the booming American economy before the Great Depression. Wily soon got too caught up in the idea of the American Dream, to be hard working and honest among other things.He soon began to get greedy in the idea of the American Dream along with other things that went wrong. His pride soon escalated and prevailed in the worst way. Biff reveals to Wily that he has failed his senior math class and will not have enough credits to graduate high school. This incident highlights and really reveals Willis stubbornness for he Just thinks Biff could just go to summer school and get the credits he needed to graduate. It was not that simple as Wily soon learned. Biff then tells his father he is going to go to an interview or an important high paying Job and Wily is very excited for him to get the Job.Biff ends up not going to the interview because he felt he was not able to get the Job. As he tries to tell his father what happened, Willis stubbornness again shows as he would not even let Biff explain what had happened. Wily keeps talking and interrupting his son saying t hings as if he got the Job. This causes very high tension between the two and leads to a huge argument at the end of the play that indirectly leads to Wily killing himself. Another incident that escalates to the tragedy that occurs in the play is when Biff catches Wily cheating on his wife.Biff is heartbroken, in shock, and angry all at once and leaves the scene leaving Wily questioning what has become of him and started to realize his life was not what it used to be, but his stubbornness still prevailed. At the end of the play the whole family meets together at their house. A significant argument breaks out mostly between Biff and Wily about how stubborn and blind he really is. Wily ends up telling Biff to get out of his house and Biff says he never wants to come back. The argument was the deciding factor hat led up to Wily getting in his car and killing himself.In the end, Willis stubbornness and pride led to things such as the arguments between him and Biff, him getting fired and refusing to take another Job out of pride, and lack of realization that he was slowly setting the stage for his own demise. Wily was Just another lower middle class American stuck in the idea of the American Dream. Along with many other Americans during the time, he symbolized the failing America of the Great Depression of the sass's and even the digressing American economy of today.

The mind has a part of the brain located in the amygdala. The amygdala is a structure located deep in the anterior inferior temporal lobe of the brain. The amygdala receives projections mostly from the sensory regions of the thalamus and the cortex, but also from several other structures such as the hippocampus and the prefrontal cortex (thebarin.mcgill, 2006). This part of the brain and its associates are known to process fear and panic. There are a multitude of fears that in much opinion are very scary from one but may not be to another. The way many process those fears are completely different just as they are to have them. President Franklin Roosevelt was famous for many acts but even without a degree in psychology he was accurate when saying "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." There are five basic fears every human has embedded in them from birth, and they are extinction, mutilation, loss of Autonomy, separation, and Ego-Death. (Dr. Karl Albrecht, 1996) Even though they are all shared I believe there are many fears that contain all 5 in its tragedy and one of those are fear of heights. The fear of heights is known as Acrophobia. Acrophobia is a debilitating anxiety disorder that affects nearly 1 in every 20 adults (Fearof.net). The word is derived from the Greek word Acron meaning heights and phobos meaning fear. To put in context there are about three hundred and nineteen million people in the United States alone. That means that almost sixteen million people have this debilitating phobia which possess the natural five fears that a person can experience. Classical conditioning can be done to help people achieve great lengths when it comes to a phobia. For example a study can be formed by having a person simulate being on a stair and gradually move there way on to the top of a sky scraper. With that a study can be formed to gather data to see how a person with the phobia will react to such a situation. With Unconditioned Stimulus a person can just be hauled up to the top to gather the immediate data. Even though this is a practice that I myself do not agree with, I understand that many forms have to be taken to help find the cause or root of an issue such as Acrophobia. The unconditioned response is behavior that occurs naturally due to a given stimulus. The situation that surrounds someone will get them to have or not have a reaction based on the circumstance around them. While conditioned responses would be the person reacting to the situation around with another individual involved. Conditioned response only when someone has come t o associate that stimulus with another. Acrophobia generally affects the recreational activities one can enjoy. However, in some extreme cases, the phobia can affect ones day to day life. For example: driving on bridges may trigger panic attacks or dizziness or individuals living or working in large cities might find it difficult to attend meetings on higher floors of a building or may experience dizziness in escalators, glass elevators, railings, and on staircases etc. (Fearof.net). Operant conditioning (also known as instrumental conditioning) is a process by which humans and animals learn to behave in such a way as to obtain rewards and avoid punishments. It is also the name for the paradigm in experimental psychology by which such learning and action selection processes are studied. (B.F. How to Get the Most Out Of Khan Academy SAT Prep SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips The College Board recently partnered with Khan Academy to provide free SAT prep resources.There are a lot of resources offered, and they can be a great help if you know how to use them correctly. This guide will explain exactly what prep materials Khan Academy offers, what they’re best for, when you should rely on other prep materials, and tips for getting the most of out Khan Academy's resources. What Is Khan Academy SATPrep? Khan Academy is a free, online resource that offers video tutorials on a wide variety of subjects, including SAT prep, which is what this article will be focusing on.The resources they offer are video tutorials, personalized study recommendations, practice questions, quizzes, and eight full-length practice exams (which are also available on the College Board’s website).These resources were designed to help students identify the areas they need to improve on and give them targeted practice based on those recommendations. Because Khan Academy developed these resources with the College Board, you can be sure they are an accurate representation of what the actual SAT will cover.To learn more about Khan Academy and their test prep resources, check out our other Khan Academy guide which gives a complete introduction to this resource. How Can You Get Started With Khan Academy SATPrep? The following steps will help you get started using Khan Academy's test prep resources. #1: Set Up an Account If you haven’t used Khan Academy before, the first thing you want to do is go to their website and create an account. You’ll need an account to access their resources and track your progress.Signing up for an account is simple and requires your name, e-mail, and birthdate. After you’ve created your account, you can choose which subject you want to study. In your case, this would be Test Prep, and you can choose to study for the new SAT or the PSAT/NMSQT.If you choose to study for the new SAT, you’ll be given two options for your next step: send your PSAT scores to Khan Academy or take a diagnostic quiz. #2: Import Your PSAT Scores If you have already taken the PSAT, you can have your scores uploaded to your Khan Academy account.You do this by signing into your College Board account (Khan Academy will take you directly to the site) and giving the College Board permission to send your PSAT scores to Khan Academy. Khan Academy will then use your PSAT scores to give you personalized study recommendations for the SAT.If you haven’t taken the PSAT yet or don’t have your scores, that’s no problem, just read the next section. #3: Take Diagnostic Quizzes If you don’t have PSAT scores to upload, then you can still get your personalized study recommendations by taking diagnostic quizzes. There are eight diagnostic quizzes, four in Math, and four for Reading and Writing (two in Reading and two in Writing and Language). Choose which quiz you want to take first. These videos typically range from 2-10 minutes long, and they involve Sal Khan (the founder of Khan Academy) working through each step of a sample problem. Most topics have videos for both a basic example and a more challenging example. For some people, being able to see and hear someone work through a problem can make a significant difference in how well they understand the concept.You can also watch these videos as many times as you need to for the information to sink in. Strength 3: Drilling Certain Skills Because Khan Academy's resources are clearly organized by specific topic, you can easily use them to drill yourself on a particular skill or topic you want to strengthen. For example, if you need to improve your knowledge of, say, linear functions,you can find that topic in Khan Academy's resources, then watch videos and complete practice problems that focus specifically on that area. Once you’ve studied the test more, you’ll begin to be able to identify when unofficial prep resources deviate from the actual exam. What Is Khan Academy Test Prep Not as Good For? For each weakness, an alternative resource is suggested. Weakness 1: Test Strategies As we mentioned above, Khan Academy’s resources are considered â€Å"official† because they were developed with the College Board.While this means they accurately represent the SAT, because Khan Academy is working with the College Board, they won’t provide tips and strategies forthe SAT that can help boost your score.This is probably the biggest drawback of using Khan Academy. Khan Academy explains how to answer specific questions in a very in-depth way, but they don’t include a lot of information on general trends of the test, such as which subjects the SAT has more questions on, ways the SAT can try and trick you, and patterns test makers follow when they develop questions. They also don’t give students strategies to follow when they take the test, such as when to skip questions, how to tackle Reading passages, or time-saving tricks to solving math problems.Knowing this information can really help you improve your SAT score and feel more confident about the test. ALTERNATIVE: Look for non-official prep resources to get this information. To get you started, we have a ton of information on the SAT, including guides specifically for the Math, Reading, and Writing and Language sections. Weakness 2: Variety of Lessons Khan Academy offers some high-quality video lessons, but there is very little variety in the way they cover information. Each video lesson consists of explaining an example problem. While this can be very helpful, there are no lessons just on covering general topics, such as a lesson that explains how to solve linear equations or one that explains basic grammar principles. Seeing practice problems explained step-by-step is definitely helpful, but, for many people, they’ll need more information and guidance when learning topics they don’t know much about or have trouble understanding.Khan Academy doesn’t have videos like these under test prep; you would have to look through theirother resources to try and find videos that focused on the topic you're trying to learn. Only using the test prep video lessons Khan Academy offers may mean you don’t get enough preparation for the SAT because you’re only learning how to answer specific problems, not the basic concepts behind those problems. ALTERNATIVE: It’s great to use Khan Academy’s resources, but you should supplement them with additional lessons. You could buy an SAT prep book with practice questions, or you can check out some other online resources. Weakness 3:Realistic Practice Test Experience Practicing for the SAT under realistic test conditions is important because it helps you feel more prepared for the real exam and spot potential weaknesses, like time management issues, that you wouldn't have otherwise noticed if you weren't answering practice questions under conditions similar to those of the real exam. While Khan Academy offers practice questions, quizzes, and full-length tests, using their resources will not always give you the most accurate testing experience for three reasons: Typically Only Test a Few Questions at a Time While Khan Academy does offer the eight official full-length practice tests that you can take in one sitting, most of the time you will only answer about 5-10 questions at a time. The real SAT is long, and if you only answer questions in short quizzes, you won’t know how you hold up during a 3-4 hour long exam. You may know all the content but get exhausted after 2 hours and make silly mistakes. Taking full-length practice tests lets you know how long tests affect you and also builds up your endurance. If you haven't beentaking complete practice tests, taking the entire SAT at once can be an exhausting experience. Questions Are Answered Online A smaller, but still important issue, is that, unless you choose to print out the exams Khan Academy offers, you will be taking them online, which is not how you will take the actual SAT (which is always taken with pencil and paper). Only taking practice SATs on a computer may mean you get tripped up on test day because you discoveryou’re slower at answering questions on paper and run out of time on a section. Questions Are Mostly Untimed The majority of practice questions you answer on Khan Academy are untimed, giving you as much time to work on them as you want.While this may be helpful if you’re just starting out and taking your time to put new knowledgeinto practice, timing is a huge component of the SAT, and if you get used to taking all the time you need, you could end up burned on the real exam when you run out of time midway through a section. ALTERNATIVE: Take at least a few practice tests on paper, and take the entire test at once, under real test conditions. Tipsfor Getting the Most Out of Khan Academy Now you know the strengths and weaknesses of Khan Academy’s SAT study material. Use the followingfour tipsto get the most out of their resources and raise your score more quickly and efficiently. Tip 1: Upload Your PSAT Scores or Take the Diagnostic Quizzes First While it may be tempting to start right away with video lessons or a few practice questions, the best way to start using Khan Academy is to give them a baseline of your strengths and weaknesses, either by uploading your PSAT scores or taking the diagnostic quizzes. Doing this at the beginning will allow you to see which areas you need to improve in the most in, and it will also allow you to track your skill level in each area and see how much you improve. Even if you don’t plan to follow all of Khan Academy’s suggestions, having them available can be helpful down the line if you don’t know what to study next or want to know how much progress you’ve made in a subject. Tip 2: Work Through a Few Subjects and See Which Methods and Resources Are Most Helpful Khan Academy offers several different types of prep resources, and you should try multiple methods to see which helps you learn best.For example, if you’re looking to improve your math skills, for one subject you could go straight to the practice problems, for anotheryou could watch the video tutorials first, and for a third subject you could go back and forth between videos and practice problems. See which method you learn the most from, then use that method the majority of the time as you continue studying. Tip 3: Use Practice Tests Wisely The eight full-length exams (also available on the College Board’s website), are currently the only official practice exams available for the revised SAT. While there are unofficial exams available, official exams are the best to use because they give you the most accurate representation of what the actual SAT will be like. Therefore, you’ll want to use these practice exams carefully. Don’t just take them all at once; spread them out over the course of your studying. Also, take them under official testing conditions. If you take the tests online, Khan Academy times each section of the practice exams to make themmore realistic, but they also offer you the choice to stop after each section and review your answers. We don’t recommend you do this; instead, take the test all the way through as you will for the actual SAT in order to see if your score changes after several hours of testing. Tip 4: Supplement With Other Resources As mentioned above, Khan Academy offers some high-quality resources, but there are some areas they’re not as strong in as others. Use other resources to learn about tricks of the SAT, identify patterns test makers use when developing questions, and to answer additional practice questions. The first of these subsections offered a brief explanation of the capital budgeting methods (real option or net present value). The first of these subsections helped to describe the hypothetical project to the participants as a way of seeking to gain shareholder buy in. The second subsection sought to obtain a quantitative measurement based upon the first with respect to whether they would seek to abandon or salvage a given project on a scale of 0-100 (Karimi et al 478). Likewise the third subsection required the participants to answer 9 multiple choice questions with a 0-5 rating concerning their hypothetical choices that have been previously determined within the other sections.
